John & Penny show gift and Congrats card that Kate and family had been carrying around waiting for the impending announcement.
At a restaurant in Morehead City, 24 family and extended family met for dinner. Penny's family and member's of John's family were there.
So, John and Penny thought it would be a good time to announce their "surprise" engagement. In fact, it seems that Penny was the ONLY one
surprised. John had purchased a ring a couple of months ago and gave it to her just that evening.
Though he had kept it a secret, it somehow got out (Hi Deanna). The entire family
(John's) knew. Kate jumped up immediately with a gift and congratulatory card that was signed by all. She had been carrying it around with her for
months waiting for the "surprise" announcement.
